Don't Take the Bait

A song by K.B.W

BEHIND THE SONG

The story behind it.

There are times when people will try to pull you off the path God has you on. Sometimes it comes as anger. Sometimes disrespect, temptation, pride. Sometimes it's just somebody trying to pull you into a place they're already stuck in. They want a reaction, because your reaction makes their behavior easier to justify.

I've been through it more times than I'd like to admit.

One thing I had to learn is that people mistake self-control for weakness. They see you stay quiet and think you didn't catch what was said. They see you walk away and think you couldn't respond.

I didn't miss it.

I saw it. I heard it. I just chose not to feed it.

There's a difference between being too weak to respond and being strong enough to know a response isn't worth the cost. Every argument doesn't deserve access to your peace. Every insult doesn't deserve your attention. Every invitation to become the person God brought you out of doesn't deserve an RSVP.

The enemy has always used bait. Pride. Anger. Validation. Revenge. Success. Approval. Things that look valuable until you see what's attached to them.

He'll even dangle something God already gave you, promising it like it was ever his to give.

But bait loses its power when you know who you belong to.

When you know your Father is King, you stop needing to prove yourself to everybody who tests you.

They want the old me. That one dead though.

The lyrics Written by K.B.W

Intro

They want the old me.
That one dead though.
Kingdom.
Let's go.

Hook

Don't take the bait, I don't bite that.
Peace in my soul, I don't fight back.
Eyes on the Kingdom, I don't look down.
Word in my chest, I don't move off sound.
They want me mad, I can't go.
They want me low, I can't fold.
They want a scene, I stay planted.
God got me covered, I'm good where I'm standing.
Don't take the bait, I don't bite that.
Peace in my soul, I don't fight back.
They throwing shade, I throw light back.
Kingdom on me, yeah, I like that.

Verse 1

They hit my phone with the tone, I already know what it is.
Little slick line, little fake smile, little jab in the ribs.
Old me would've spun back quick, no prayer, just pride.
New me let the Lord ride shotgun, I slide.
I ain't finna crash out for a comment.
I ain't finna lose sleep over nonsense.
I ain't finna let another broken soul
walk in my house and control my conscience.
Nah.
I'm too rooted.
Too covered.
Too chosen.
Too focused.
They thought I was quiet cause I didn't peep it.
I peeped it.
I just ain't feed it.
That fruit of the Spirit hit different when pressure get heated.
Slow to speak, but I'm quick with the wisdom.
Heart on guard, can't hand them the rhythm.
Enemy fishing, I see where the hook at.
I'm in the Word, so I already shook that.
I got a wife, got kids, got purpose.
Can't let petty people come purchase
space in my mind that the Lord already paid for.
Peace too expensive, what you think I stayed for?

Verse 2

I been through too much fire just to burn for a fool.
Had to learn self-control, that's a weapon and a tool.
Had to learn every fight ain't assigned to my name.
Some people throw flames cause they cold in their veins.
I pray, then I pivot.
I hear, but don't visit.
That drama got doors, I don't walk in the building.
They wanted reaction, I gave them the vision.
Can't live in hate while fulfilling the mission.
They can't pull me out my blessing with a post.
Can't make me hate what God told me to host.
Can't make me bitter when He made me whole.
Can't take the wheel when He saving my soul.

Bridge

They want the old me.
That one buried.
They want control.
That don't scare me.
They want my peace.
They can't carry.
I'm with the King.
That's hereditary.
They want the smoke.
I got the oil.
They want the noise.
I got the soil.
They want my roots to come loose in the storm.
But I was planted before I was born.

Final hook

Don't take the bait, I don't bite that.
Peace in my soul, I don't fight back.
Eyes on the Kingdom, I don't look down.
Word in my chest, I don't move off sound.
They want me mad, I can't go.
They want me low, I can't fold.
They want a scene, I stay planted.
God got me covered, I'm good where I'm standing.
Don't take the bait, I don't bite that.
Peace in my soul, I don't fight back.
They throwing shade, I throw light back.

Outro

Don't take the bait.
Don't give them the wheel.
Eyes on the Kingdom.
Peace be still.

THE STORY OF K.B.W

The pen came back.
The purpose changed.

I didn't write anything for over a decade. I had stepped away from music because I could no longer support how my words were being used.

“I Got the Ghost” started with a hook. That opened the door to writing again, this time with God as the foundation.

I'm a father. I'm still learning. The music comes from faith, struggle, growth, and conviction. Every song is an opportunity to point someone toward Christ.

ON THE RECORD / ABOUT THE MUSIC

Every lyric is written by me. Every story, idea, message, and meaning comes from me.

I use AI as part of the production process, including the vocals. Technology allowed me to return to music without becoming something I've never wanted to be.

The technology is part of the process.
The testimony is mine.
