K.B.W / KEPT BY THE WORD

Weight on Me

A song by K.B.W

BEHIND THE SONG

The story behind it.

This one came out of the hardest season I've walked through.

I had a health situation where the doctor said one word. The kind of word that, when people hear it, makes the whole room feel like it might be over. Everything changed in that moment. That's why the song begins with "Weight on me" and why the hook asks God to lift it. The word is part of the story, but the weight it put on me, and what God did with that weight, is what the song is about.

When I wrote, "Staring at the ceiling, health hanging on" and "Lord, I'm tapped out, barely holding on," those were not lines added just to make the song sound deeper. That is what those nights felt like. I asked, "Are You here?" and it felt quiet. But quiet ain't absent. Even when I could not feel Him, He was working through the fire and showing me I was stronger than I thought.

He gave me strength I didn’t know I had.

That is what I meant by, "Then He pulled me out the water like it's meant for me." He pulled me through that season, and I came out different, healed and changed. That's why the second half of the song doesn’t sound like the first. I walk with authority now. Not mine, His.

Weight on me. But God lift the rest. He shows up right on time.

Weight on me

Hook

Weight on me
God lift the weight off me
I was in the deep end sinking low key
Then He pulled me out the water like it's meant for me
Pressure on my chest but He breathe on me
Devil throwing shots they don't bleed on me
Even when I feel alone, he still leading me
He be walking right beside me, never leave me

Verse 1

Yeah… I was down with a heavy load
Heart cracked, pain stacked, couldn’t carry those
Asking God “Are you here?” in a heavy tone
Felt quiet but He still moved like a metronome
He was in the background building me
Turning all that weight into a realer me
Had to let go friends who were killing me
Now I’m rolling with the One parting seas with symmetry
Came from a block where the hope run thin
But He reached for my hand when the storm blew in
People faded when the battle started setting in
But God kept me steady so I'm ready for the win

Verse 2

Faith got weight like a trap plate loaded
But He spot me every time when my back folded
Said “Trust Me,” even when the path looked crooked
Now the blessing on my life got my whole team noticed
Staring at the ceiling, health hanging on
Told Him “Lord I’m tapped out, barely holding on”
Then He whispered in the dark “Son you stronger than you thought”
I was working through the fire even when you felt lost”
Now I walk with authority
Kingdom on me, peace pouring over me
Light in my chest like glory controlling me
Devil tried to break me but he never had ahold of me

Outro

Down but I rise when the most high step
Hands up, tears dry, that’s a real hood flex
Weight on me… but God lift the rest
Yeah… He show up right on, time.

THE STORY OF K.B.W

The pen came back.
The purpose changed.

I didn't write anything for over a decade. I had stepped away from music because I could no longer support how my words were being used.

“I Got the Ghost” started with a hook. That opened the door to writing again, this time with God as the foundation.

I'm a father. I'm still learning. The music comes from faith, struggle, growth, and conviction. Every song is an opportunity to point someone toward Christ.

ON THE RECORD / ABOUT THE MUSIC

Every lyric is written by me. Every story, idea, message, and meaning comes from me.

I use AI as part of the production process, including the vocals. Technology allowed me to return to music without becoming something I've never wanted to be.

The technology is part of the process.
The testimony is mine.
