K.B.W / KEPT BY THE WORD

The Switch Pt. 1

A song by K.B.W

BEHIND THE SONG

The story behind it.

I'll keep it real with you, there's no late-night revelation behind this one. I wrote The Switch for my rap fans.

Because I am one. I know the sound, I know the slang, I know what the trap talks about, the plug, the work, the water, the birds. And I thought, what if I took every one of those bars and switched them? So the plug became the One who was hung on the cross. The work became what happens at church. The keys to the Kingdom hit harder than kilos. Same flow you already ride to. Different Spirit driving. A rap fan can't hear this song without hearing their whole playlist get baptized.

Same block, Different spirit.

The lyrics Written by K.B.W

Intro

Yeah
(Mmm hmm)
Same block
(Same block)
Same block, different spirit
They think I lost it the word

Verse 1

I was in the kitchen with the water... now He walking on it. (Walking!)
I used to want the crown, now I’m looking at the thorns on it. (Thorns!)
The weight of the world? I had to drop it.
He took the nails so I wouldn't have to carry the rocket. (Lord!)
I’m still with the squad, but the spirit is different.
I’m whispering prayers while they talkin' 'bout flippin'. (Flippin'!)
Say they got snakes in the grass, I ain't trippin'
He keep it cut so I see where they sit
They stuck on a Chapter but I'm fed by the Book.
He took the Bait off the Line so I’m free from the Hook. (Free!)
Look at the transition I’m on a mission I’m switching the vision they think that I’m slippin' I’m really just fixed on the King.
I got the keys to the Kingdom it’s better than kilos I’m saving my people I’m pulling 'em out of the ring.
My partner still calling the plug, I told him the Plug is the One who was hung on the cross for me
He looking at me like I’m crazy, I told him the Son is the only One making us free.
I’m carrying crosses, I ain't talking jewelry.
The blood on the pavement, it cry out for purity.
They want the smoke, I just give 'em the Fire.
The higher I get, man, the lower the liar.
He took the sentencing, then He erased the sentence.
Now I’m the period at the end of repentance. (Period!)
Switch it
Lets Get it

Verse 2

My brother still calling me asking for work.
I told him the work is what happens at church.
He think I’m a lame ‘cause I’m following Him.
But I’m leading the flock while he’s drowning in sin.
They coveting money, I’m washed by the Lamb.
he switched up my soul, then rewrote who I am. (he did)
They want me to spin back, I been there, I lived that, I did that
He bagged that and trashed that, no backtrack
Now I’m switching the play, I don’t miss when I pray, I don’t sip from the cup if it twist up my way,
They be drifting for days, I been driven by grace, I was living for likes now i'm switchin' the pace,
I don’t listen to hate, I just pivot in place, I’m a witness, not timid, I’m different on purpose
They keep reaching for birds, chasing tweets and a verse, I’m just teaching the church how to pray through the hurt
(Switch!)
Hold up
Glow up
God move
I’m up
Night rides, devil lie, I mute that
Same friends, same sins, withdrew that
Old me tried to pop up, I checked that
Hard stop, straight drop, He blessed that
New me
ID ID
I was boxed in, He walked in, now I’m holy though
The soul gold, the goal told, I’m lowly though
With the overflow, whole glow when I’m on the road
Grace drip, never slip, this a holy show
Big step, no stress, thats the Holy Ghost

THE STORY OF K.B.W

The pen came back.
The purpose changed.

I didn't write anything for over a decade. I had stepped away from music because I could no longer support how my words were being used.

“I Got the Ghost” started with a hook. That opened the door to writing again, this time with God as the foundation.

I'm a father. I'm still learning. The music comes from faith, struggle, growth, and conviction. Every song is an opportunity to point someone toward Christ.

ON THE RECORD / ABOUT THE MUSIC

Every lyric is written by me. Every story, idea, message, and meaning comes from me.

I use AI as part of the production process, including the vocals. Technology allowed me to return to music without becoming something I've never wanted to be.

The technology is part of the process.
The testimony is mine.
