If you've ever wondered about the numbers in my name, the 29.11, this song is the answer.
Finna Be is one of the most personal songs I've written. The empty room, the mirror, the cold floor, the name built on sand, and the vacant house aren't there just to dress up the verse. They describe what that season felt like. I spent years running from the calling while trying to build a life on my own terms. People could look at me and say I made it, but I knew what looked full from the outside still felt empty inside.
When I say I called His name and realized He was there the whole time, that's the turning point of the song. I had been running from what God placed in me, but He had not walked away from me. I ran from the plans. The plans never ran from me.
That's why Jeremiah 29:11 is in the bridge, stripped down to strings and a whisper: "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The lyric says, "Plans to prosper, that's the Word, that's the guarantee." I don't mean that every plan of mine is guaranteed to work or that following God makes life easy. I mean God had not forgotten me, and my past had not canceled what He spoke over my life. It's not a caption to me. It's the reason I'm here.
When people ask what I'm finna be, I stopped answering with a career. I'm finna be everything He spoke over me. Not the shame. Not the past. Who I was ain't who I'm finna be.
